Eight League Rules: The Structure of Eight, Two Paths to Glory

The Structure of Eight: Two Paths to Glory

Eight – A Revolutionary Skating & Art Showdown Presented by America(n) Art Academy and Point Flip Conservatory

Welcome to Eight, an electrifying new project that brings together 8 scientists, 8 skaters, 8 filmmakers, and 8 artists in a battle of creativity, skill, and vision. These contenders will be divided into eight teams, each featuring one skater, one filmmaker, and one artist, forging a unique fusion of motion, storytelling, and artistic expression. Our first contest will have a $300 cash prize for the winner of all 8 teams.

The competitive landscape of Eight operates through two distinct, yet interconnected, avenues for teams to gain points, prestige, and rewards: the Constant Leaderboard and the Tournament Bracket.

1. The Constant Leaderboard: The Grind

The Constant Leaderboard is the ever-present engine of Eight, constantly tracking team performance and determining the top-ranked contenders.

  • Clip Submission and Scoring: Registered skaters continuously submit performance clips. The Hoverheads—our esteemed judging council—evaluate these clips and award points based on skill, style, and creativity.

  • Rewards and Rank: These accrued points are the currency of Eight. They directly determine a team’s:

    • Team Pay: The financial compensation for the team.

    • Team Merch Shipments: The quantity and frequency of official merchandise a team receives.

    • Team Rank: The official standing on the Constant Leaderboard.

  • The Top 8 and Knockouts: The primary function of the Leaderboard is to maintain the core eight teams of the competition. Teams that fall out of the top rankings are "knocked out," making way for new blood.

  • Unlisted Teams and "Bursting On": Players can be registered to the competition even if their team is not currently in the top 8. These are Unlisted Teams. They can still submit clips, accumulate points, and—if they score high enough—"burst their way" onto the Leaderboard, displacing one of the lower-ranked current teams. The Constant Leaderboard is the long-game, ensuring only the most consistently performing teams remain in the spotlight.

2. The Tournament Bracket: The High-Stakes Duel

The Tournament Bracket offers a separate, high-stakes path to glory, points, and unique rewards through direct, head-to-head competition.

  • One-on-One Film Submission: Tournaments are announced with specific film submission deadlines. Each tournament is a 1-on-1 duel between two teams.

  • Scientist-Led Submissions: Critically, only the scientists on the two competing teams are permitted to submit the final film. This rule ensures the scientific and analytical component of the team—the "vision"—is the decisive factor in the final presentation.

  • The Hoverheads' Vote: Once the two films are submitted, the Hoverheads cast their vote on the winner.

  • Massive Rewards: The winning team receives a boatload of points—a significant boost far exceeding daily clip submissions—along with any other announced prizes and bonuses, making the Tournament Bracket the fastest way to surge up the Constant Leaderboard and achieve true competitive dominance.

The combination of the continuous Constant Leaderboard and the event-driven Tournament Bracket creates a dynamic environment where teams must balance consistent excellence with the ability to win under pressure in high-stakes duels.
